US Fugitive Slave Act of 1793

Jurisdiction to US district court and state judges and magistrates to issue certificates of removal to slaveholders to seize fugitive slaves across state lines. Acts such as these throughout the US followed local actions. They were a challenge to states with active abolitionist practices and state personal liberty laws, especially border states.
